David Bowie is one of the artists inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His induction was done in 1996.
Early Life
David Bowie was born in South London to Margaret Mary and Haywood Stenton Jones. Their family resided in south London, at the boundary between Stockwell and Brixton.
David attended the Stockwell Infants school, where he was recognized as a single-minded and rough child. After moving to Bromley in 1953, David Bowie joined the Burnt Ash Junior school and later joined Bromley Technical High school. It was at Bromley where Bowie studied art, music, and design, which helped polish his musical gifts.
It is also important to point out that Bowie’s eye was injured during his teenage stage. This was after getting punched by a friend and later partner in business, Underwood George. The eye underwent several operations, but it remained dilated and with false depth perception.
Personal Life
David Bowie married his first wife, Mary Barnett on March 19, 1970, in London. However, this marriage ended in 1980 and Bowie remarried again in 1992, to Iman, a Somali-American model.
Career
Bowie’s first significant move in his career was when he was 15 years old. Bowie formed a rock band and named it the Konrad. This band performed in youth gatherings and weddings in their locality. After high school, Bowie left the Konrads because other members had no ambition to grow as pop artists as Bowie did. He joined another band known as the King Bees.
He then began releasing single projects and one of his most successful songs Space oddity was released after watching the movie “A Space Odyssey” by Stanley Kubrick’s. David Bowie went on to release several albums which performed quite well.
Death
David Bowie succumbed to Cancer in 2016 and was 69 years old at the time of his death.
