O’Shea Jackson (Ice Cube) rose to fame for being a member of the popular rap group N.W.A. before that; he was part of another rap group, C.I.A that disbanded shortly before the formation of N.W.A. 

The group members included Dr. Dre and Eazy E. He was the group’s leading songwriter and, at times, producer. He is attributed to being the founding member of gangsta rap, which gained fame in the 90s.

Early Life

Ice Cube was born on June 15, 1969, in South Central Los Angeles. His mother was a hospital clerk while his father worked as a groundskeeper and a machinist.

Ice Cube has two siblings, an older brother and a half-sister was murdered when he was age12. 

Personal Life

Ice Cube got married to Kimberly Woodruff in 1992, and together they have four children. He became a Muslim in the 90s and was associated with the Nation of Islam movement.

Career

Ice Cube formed the rap group C.I.A while still a teenager and performed a couple of times while at George Washington Preparatory School. He sold one of his first songs to rapper Eazy- E, who would, later on, join him to form the rap group N.W.A.

After forming N.W.A with Dr. Dre and Eazy E, the trio released the N.W.A album and Posse. Ice Cube wrote most songs in the albums. The group gained fame, and in 1988 the trio released yet another album titled Straight Outta Campton

In 1989 Ice Cube left the group after falling out with the group’s management. He started his solo career and immediately released Amerikkka’s Most Wanted album in 1990. The album touched on the social, political situation that affected the African- Americans at that time.

The album went platinum, and he would go on to release two more albums Death Certificate and The Predator consecutively. His last album was Lethal Injection, released in 1993 before he ventured into the world of films. Some of his most notable films include; Boyz N the Hood, The Friday Series, The Barbershop Series and 21 Jump Street.
