George Washington is famously remembered for being the first President of the United States of America; he is even referred to as the ‘Founding Father’.

In the first two American elections, he was elected twice as President by the Electoral College serving for two terms.

Washington owned slaves for labor and trading, but he later set them free.

Early Life

At Pope’s Creek in Virginia, George Washington was born on February 22nd, 1732. His parents were Augustine and Mary Bail Washington. He was the firstborn in a family of six children.

He learned Mathematics, Trigonometry, and Surveying.  He received his survey license in 1749 at the College of William Mary.

Personal Life

He married Martha Dangridge Custis on January 6th, 1759 when he was 26 years of age, and she was 28 years old. Being wealthy, she owned an estate where they held their marriage ceremony. They raised her children together.

Career

George Washington was the first ‘Founding Father’ of the United States serving from 1789 to 1797. During this time, he led his troops to victory in the War for Independence. He also helped establish the Constitutional Convention of 1787.

George was as a Major in December 1752 and as a Commander inspired by Lawrence in the Virginia Militia.

At an Expedition to push out the French from the Ohio County, he served the then general voluntarily in 1755.

Washington’s military experience enabled him to be elected as the Commander in Chief between 1775 and 1783.

In March 1797, he retired to Mount Vernon to work on his businesses and his firm.

Death

On December 14th, 1799, he woke up with an inflamed throat and had difficulty breathing and later died. His funeral was held for four days after his death. He was buried in Mount Vernon in December 18th 1799.
