Dostoevsky dropped out of school at 15 years and translated books to earn money hence living a lavish life.

Fyodor was imprisoned in Siberian Camp for four years and served six years in the military for discussing banned books.

As a Journalist, he published many magazines and a ‘Writer’s Diary’ was one of his famous writings.

His books have been published in more than 170 languages.

Early Life

Born to MikhailDostoyevsky and Maria Nehayeva on 11th October 1821, Fyodor Dostoyevsky was their second child. While he was introduced to literature at an early age by his nanny, his mother used the bible to teach him how to read and write. He attended the free Nikolayev Military Engineering Institute in January 1838 but he was dismissed on health grounds. 

He finished his studies and graduated as an Engineer Cadet despite his father’s death which affected his health.

Personal Life

Dostoyevsky fell in love with Maria Isaeva and married her on 7th February 1857 but she found it difficult to cope with his seizures. He married Anna Grigoryevna on 15th February in 1867 with whom they had a child born in Geneva, on 5th March 1868. The baby died of Pneumonia three months later. Their second child was born on 26th September 1869 in Dresden. He was jailed for four years and served six years in the military for reading banned books in 1849 and 1854.

Career

Fearing that his military career would endanger his literary one, he resigned and took to write his second novel. His first novel in 1845 was a success.

Dostoyevsky published his third novel after release from prison in 1861.

In mid- March 1861, he was forced to serve in the Siberian Army in Semipalatinsk where he also tutored school children.

Fyodor continued to work on the ‘Writer Diary’ in early 1876.

On 3rd, February 1880, Dostoevsky was elected as the vice-president of the Slavic Benevolent Society.

Death

Fyodor Dostoyevsky died at 59 years in 1881.
