Early Life

Francis Scott was born on September 24th, 1896, in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The American writer was named after one of his famous second cousins. Francis Scott was brought up in an average home. His father was of Irish and English and was known to be a calm person. His mother was Mary McQuillan. Molly, as identified by many people, was the daughter of an Irish immigrant. Molly’s parents made life through a wholesale grocery business. Francis schooled at Holy Angels Convent and later joined Nardin Academy. He also attended St. Paul Academy between 1908 and 1911. 

Personal Life

Later in life, Francis met Zelda Sayre, who would turn out to be the lover of his life. Although, at first, Zelda turned down Francis’s hand in marriage. She later accepted his proposal after the writer could afford her expenses. 

Career

Francis’s career wasn’t a walk in the park. He mostly struggled to make ends meet. On some occasions, he was even turned down by his sweetheart, Zelda, for lack of money. His breakthrough came to be witnessed in late 1919. Scribner accepted one of his novels that he was working on the revisions. The book was launched on March 26th 1926. This specific novel was a great success. It sold more than 40000 copies within the first year. The victory saw him earn a stable income and a name in the industry. Later in life, Francis was hired by various renowned producers to help with the writing of films. 

Death

Francis died on December 20th 1940, after suffering from tuberculosis.
