Edmund Burke was a state man and a philosopher.

He is known to a proponent of the emancipation of the Catholic Church and opposition of the French revolution; he argued that revolution destroys the fabric of the society. 

Early Life

Burke was born in the city of Dublin, Ireland. His mom was a devoted catholic while his dad attended the church of Ireland. Burke converted from Catholicism to be an Anglican, and he was devoted to it all his life.

His first got educated attended Quaker school in Ballitore. He also went to Trinity College at the time when they didn’t allow Catholics to take a degree there. While in college, he set up a debating club society which came to be the oldest undergraduate society in the world. The minutes of the club is still there up to now.

He graduated from college in 1748 to go to London to study law by his father wish. He dropped law after a few years to travel all over Europe. Burke then started living off as a writer.

Personal Life

Edmund Burke was married to Jane Mary Nugent in 1757 and a son and only child Richard Burke Junior.

Career

He entered House of Commons of the British Parliament in 1765. When in parliament, the first subject he addressed was American colonies controversy that ultimately developed into war and separation.

Burke supported American thirteen colonies grievances under King George III and in 1774 April 19, he made a speech on American taxation.  He also delivered a lecture on the House of Commons on the need for peace than the civil war which will destroy America’s industries and wealth. 

Burke is regarded as a liberal-conservative.

Death

Edmund died Beaconsfield Buckinghamshire on July 7, 1997. His burial place was alongside his brother and son. He died at the age of 68.
