Donald Henry Rumsfeld is famously known for being a renowned figure in the United States of America. He has served twice as the Secretary of Defense.
Early Life
Donald Henry was born and raised in Chicago to Jeannette Kearsley and George Donald. He was then raised in Winnetka town where he became an eagle scout in 1949.
Donald attended early schooling at the Baker demonstration school and later joined New Trier High School where he graduated from. He managed to gain entry into the Princeton University where he undertook political science as his major. While at the university, Princeton also took part in wrestling and was the school’s wrestling captain.
Between 1943 and 1945, Rumsfeld’s father got stationed on an aircraft carrier during the second world war two, and Rumsfeld lived in Coronado, California during the period.
Personal Life
Donald married the love of his life, Joyce P. Pierson in 1954, December 27. The couple has three children; Nick, Valerie, and Marcy.
Career
After graduating from University, Donald joined the US Navy as a pilot and flight instructor between 1954 and 1957. He then became a navy reserve and retired from the Navy in 1989, as a captain. While in the Navy reserve, Donald worked as an administrative assistant to David Dennison, then Ohio congressman.
In 1962, Donald won the elections to represent Illinois in Congress. He served as a congressman for four terms. After his last term in congress, Donald served in several other positions in the government before his appointment to become Secretary of Defense by President Ford.
He served as the defense secretary between 1975 to 1977. Donald served for a second time as the secretary of defense under George Bush.
Rumsfeld is also an author, having written and published “Known and unknown” in 2011.
He has received the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award and also the prestigious Silver Buffalo Award in 2006.
