D. H. Lawrence is mostly famed for his novel ‘Lady Chatterley’s Lover’ that got banned in the United States in 1959.

He is also regarded as one of the most influential poets to have lived in the 20th century.

Early Life

David was born in Nottinghamshire to a humble family. He was the son of Arthur John and Lydia Beardsall. His father was a simple coal miner, and the mother was a laborer in a factory. Lucky for Lawrence, his mother had a good education background with a profound love for literature which she instilled in him.

His outstanding performance in primary school helped him get financial aid from the county council. It is through the scholarship that David was able to complete his high school studies in Nottingham High School.

Personal Life

There remains an open question of whether Lawrence was homosexual or not. According to his wife, Lawrence had been in love with a Coal miner and some of his greatest works also show his inclination towards same-sex relationships.

It is in 1912 that Lawrence met the love of his life, Frieda Weekley. Though married and with three children, Frieda chose to elope with Lawrence to Metz, a border town in Germany. Lawrence stayed in marriage with Frieda until his death in 1930.

Career

Lawrence worked as a writer, poet and literary critic for his entire adult life. His literary pieces include the Sons and Lovers, The rainbow, Lady Chatterley’s Lover and Women in love. Most of his writings were majorly pornographic, and most people think that he had wasted his talent on such content.

Death

D.H Lawrence died at the age of 44 in Vence, France. Tuberculosis complications were said to be the cause of his death.
