Early Life
Dan Quayle was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, to James Quayle and Corrine Pulliam. His father was a newspaper publisher and came from a wealthy family. His grandfather, Eugene C. Pulliam was a wealthy and established publisher, and the founder of central newspapers, Inc.
Personal Life
James spent most of his childhood in Phoenix but later moved back to Indiana. He graduated from DePauw University, in 1969 and then obtained a law degree from Indiana University. He was then admitted to the bar in 1974.
James married Marilyn Tucker, and together they have three children.
Career
In 1976, James won the election to the U.S. House of representatives which marked his entry into active U.S. politics. He served as a house representative for four years, from 1977 to 1981. On January 3, 1981, James got elected into the senate, representing Indiana. He served for eight years until 1989.
On January 20, 1989, George Bush appointed James as his running mate in the presidential election. The decision by George Bush to appoint James as his running mate was widely criticized with most people terming James as unqualified for the presidency. Nonetheless, they were able to win the elections, and James became the 44th vice president of the united states of America.
However, even after their election into Whitehouse, James Quayle remained a subject for ridicule and criticism both by the media and the general public. People still regarded him as unqualified and low level intellectual due to his incoherent speech.
His political career ended when they lost to Bill Clinton in the 1992 elections. After politics, James joined Cerberus Capital management, becoming their chairman.
James has also published a book, Standing Firm, in 1994, which contains memoirs of the vice president position.
