Carol Creighton Burnet is famously known for her show on television, ‘The Carol Burnett Show.’ The show was the first ever to be hosted by a woman since the introduction of films and TV programs.  

Early Life

On the streets of San Antonio, the name Carol Burnett is known as it’s her place of birth. The successful TV host was born on April 26th, 1933 to Joseph Thomas Burnett who worked as a movie theatre manager. Ina Louise, her mother, on the other end, was a publicity writer.

Unfortunately, Carol’s childhood isn’t a thing to smile about as her parents were alcoholics. Carol grew up in the care of her grandmother as her parents were legally separated. Burnett moved to Hollywood, California together with her grandmother and her half-sister where they lived in a boarding house. 

Carol’s ethnicity is a mixture of Welsh and English. The successful TV personality schooled at Hollywood High School, where she completed in 1951. Later, Burnett joined UCLA where she pursued her passion in musical comedy and theatre.  

Personal Life

Carol was married to Don Saroyan, her high school boyfriend, on December 1955. However, the host and the actor filed a divorce after seven years of marriage. Three years after the divorce, Carol moved on and was married to Joe Hamilton, a celebrated TV producer. Together with Joe, Carol was blessed with three daughters. In 1984, the two parted ways, and Carol was married again by Brian, a drummer, in 2001. 

Career

Carol’s career dates back to 1954 when she got a couple of shifts at a local show. Her breakthrough came in 1955 when she got featured on the popular TV series, ‘The Paul Winchell and Jerry Mahoney Show.’ Also, Carol appeared in a song, ‘I Made A Fool of Myself’ which left many people in laughter. In the early ’60s, Carol was a regular in ‘The Garry Moore Show.’ Her career in movies started in the film, ‘Who’s Been Sleeping in My Bed?’ The role saw her earn the viewer’s attention. 

More afterward, Carol came up with her show, ‘The Carol Burnett Show’ and which continued to earn her success and loyalties. In 1978, Carol said goodbye to the show having bagged many Emmy Awards among other Golden Global accolades.
