Bob Nesta Marley was awarded the Rolling Stone award for Band of the year category in 1976. The United Nations awarded Bob Marley the Peace Medal of the Third World. In February 1981he was awarded Jamaica’s third-highest honor, Jamaican Order of Merit.
Early Life
Bob Marley spent his early days in the rural parts of Nine Miles.
His childhood friend Neville Bunny Livingstone inspired Bob to learn the guitar. Bob Marley arrived in Kingstone Jamaica in the late 1950s and settled in Trench Town.
He struggles with the harsh condition s and found inspiration in Music. He was inspired by artists like Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, Fats Domino, and the Drifters.
Personal life
Bob Married got married to Constantia “Rita” Anderson on February 10, 1966, in Kingston City. They had four children and two adopted kids from the previous relationship that Rita had. Bob Marley had a total of 11 children. His youngest child is Damian Marley, born on July 21, 1978.
Career
Bob Marley began his music career shortly after moving to Kingston, Jamaica. He recorded ‘Judge Not,’ with producer Leslie Kong in 1962. He joined with his friend Livingston and McIntosh in 1963 and formed the Wailing Wailers band. In 1964 they released their first song ‘simmer Down which topped chats. Marley, later on, moved to the United States in 1966.
He returned to Jamaica after eight months and formed the Wailers band together with McIntosh and Livingstone. Bob Marley composed songs that revolved around his spiritual belief and was a Pan African.
His Music was aligned with Africanism and African Heritage and culture. In 1960 Bob Marley worked with popstar Johny Nash to release the hit song ‘Stir It Up.’ There was a change in the band line up in 1970 with the addition of a new bassist Aston Barrett.
The wailers released ‘Trenchtown Rock,’ and ‘Soul Rebel’ which were a huge success. In the following year, Bob worked for Soundtrack for a movie in Sweden.
In 1975 the Wailers band released Natty Dread Album. On the same year, Peter Tosh and Livingstone left the Band to pursue solo careers.
Death
Bob Marley died on May 11, 1981, in Miami, Florida. He died from Cancer. His final words to Ziggy, his son were “Money can’t buy life.”
