Bill began the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in 1950 which extended to televangelism. Billy Graham, through the Association, worked with political leaders to ensure his ministry covered a vast area. The organization had a radio program and a newspaper column called ‘My Answer’ and a magazine, ‘Decision.’

Graham received a Congressional Gold Medal of Honor in 1996 together with his wife. 

Early Life

Billy Graham grew up in the rural parts of North Carolina. His parents were William Graham and Morrow Graham. He began his mission as a Christian in 1934 after meeting evangelist Mordecai Ham. Bill attended the Bob Jones College in Cleveland, Tennessee. 

He moved to Florida Bible Institute and graduated in 1940. Bill got ordained as a minister in 1940. Afterward, he enrolled in Wheaton College in Illinois, Chicago.

Bill Graham got married to Ruth Bell in 1943. 

Career

Bill Graham began preaching at Western Church Baptist Church in Illinois. He left the church and joined Youth for Christ Church. He was later appointed as the President of Northwestern Schools in 1947. 

In 1952 he left as the President of the Northwestern School to concentrate on his ministry. Bill Graham, together with colleagues, formed the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. 

He broadcasted his ministry on radio and hosted a weekly program on ABC called The Hour of Decision.  The program was later converted to a Television show allowing him to reach millions of people across the globe. He published newspapers, tapes, books, and films. He set up several international offices in various countries. 

Bill Graham authored various books such as; Angels: ‘God’s Secret Agents,’ in 1975, ‘ How to be Born Again,’ in 1979, ‘Death and the Life After,’ in 1994 and ‘ The Journey: Living by Faith in an Uncertain World’ in 2006.

Death

Bill Graham died on February 21, 2018, at his North Carolina home.
