Bertrand Russell was elected as a fellow of the Royal Society in 1908 and got reelected in 1944. 

His works and contribution earned him the Sylvester Medal of the Royal Society. 

Russell won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1950.

Early Life

Bertrand Russell was grew up in Trellech Monmouthshire in Wales with his parents Viscount Amberley and Katherine. He lived with his grandparents after the death of his father. 

Bertrand got his education from tutors and governesses. It is here he polished his knowledge in German and French.  Bertrand won a scholarship to join the Trinity College Cambridge to study Mathematics. 

Personal Life

Russell got married to Alys Smith in 1894. The two separated in 1921. Bertrand married Miss Dora in September 1921 and lived in Chelsea for six years. They divorced in 1935. He and his third wife  Patricia Helen Spence, got married in 1936. 

Career

In 1900 Bertrand attended a Mathematics congress in Paris, France. He was impressed by the work of Peano, an Italian Mathematician. He studied his work and in 1903 Bertrand published his first book, The Principals of Mathematics. 

He was offered a job as a lecturer at Trinity College. He participated actively as a member of the No-Conscription Fellowship. He was fined 100 Euros and was dismissed as a lecturer in 1916. Russel was then offered a job at Harvard University but could not secure a passport to travel. 

Russell travelled to Russia in 1920 to study the situation in Bolshevism and the Russian Revolution. He was, however, disappointed by the actions of Lenin. In the same year, he lectured at Peking University in China. His books The Practice and Theory of Bolshevism were published at the same year. 

Russell Published A History of Western Philosophy after the Seconds World War.  By 1960 Russell had become an intellectual celebrity appearing in BBC programs. His final statement was when he criticized the Invasion of the Middle East by Israel. 

Death

Bertrand Russell died on February 1970 from Influenza.
