Famously Known For

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry qualified to join the military in 1922. He, together with other troops, helped to establish the airmail routes across Northwestern parts of Africa.

Published the Aviator in 1926 the same year he returned to flying in the Air Force.

In 1927 Antoine was placed in charge of the Saharan Airfields, and through his experiences, he published his first book Southern Mail.

His book Night Flight led to him receiving the Prix Femina literary prize.

Early Life

Antoine was born in 1900 in Lyon City, France. He was raised in an aristocratic family. He had three sisters and a younger brother. His father was an executive of an insurance brokerage. At age 12, he took his first ride on an airplane and loved the experience. 

Antoine failed twice in the final preparatory exam for the Naval Academy.  In 1922 he was accorded the right to fly a plane in the military.

Personal Life

Antoine was engaged to a young woman which led to him leaving the Airforce. In 1931, he got married to a writer and artist called Consuelo Sunsin.

Career

He joined the military in 1921 and was assigned duties with the French Airforce. He, later on, left the Air Force after two years for personal reasons. Antoine returned to flying planes in 1926 he returned to flying planed and joined a private airline called Aeropostale. 

He delivered mail from Toulouse in France to Dakar Senegal. He authored several books in his lifetime. His notable works include Pilote de Guerre, Lettre un Otage and The Little Princess.

Death

Saint Exupery is assumed to have passed on after July 31, 1944. He left for a mission over occupied France and never returned.
