Anthony Michael Bourdain popularized the food culture in the early 21st century with his books and television programs.

In 1999, he published an article in The New Yorker called “Don’t Eat Before Reading This,” that aimed at exposing the restaurant industry. 

In 2002- 2003 he had a successful television show called A Cook Tour that mainly focused on local Cuisines.

Early Life

Bourdain took an interest in food and at an early age when he ate an oyster while on a trip to France. Anthony undertook his higher education at Vassar College for two years and later on graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1978. 

He then moved to New York City where he managed several restaurants. While working, he took an interest in writing leading to two crime novels- Bone in the Throat published in 1995 and Gone Bamboo published in 1997.

Personal Life

In 1985 Bourdain got married to his high school girlfriend, Nancy Putkoski. The two divorced in 2005 and later on, he got married to Ottavia Busia on April 20, 2007. Busia was a mixed martial artist and instructor.

Career

Bourdain’s career kicked off in 1997 after publishing an article called Don’t Eat Before Reading This on The New Yorker.  

Later on, in 2001, he ventured in the Television world with programs like A Cook’s Tour, which aimed at exploring exotic foods and cuisines found in different parts of the world. He continued with the second season of the show in 2002. 

He, later on, appeared as a judge on a television show Bravo Top Chef.

Death

Anthony Bourdain was found dead on June 8, 2018, in a hotel room in what was ruled out as a suicide.
