She has opposed the emergency border aid bill, which will cost $4.6 billion. Her view on this is that the funds can be used in detaining the migrants and conducting deportations after that.

Early Life

Alexandria Cortez was born to a Puerto Rican family that lived in New York. She later on in her education, graduated from Boston University with a degree in International relations and Economics. Cortez returned home and worked as a community organizer. With the recession and her father’s death, she worked in many restaurants for a low wage.

Personal Life

Alexandria is a Christian Catholic. She does not, however, agree to the teachings of the church. She supports the LGBT movement and rights. Cortez is pro-abortion.

Career

Alexandria Cortez worked as a bartender when she began her campaign for the US congress. She successfully won. She supported Bernie Sanders who lost the 2016 candidacy on the Democrat party. After the loss, Democratic Socialists started recruiting for candidates to run for the Senate and the House of Representatives.

 Cortez brother made an application on her behalf, and her campaign for congress began. In her career, Cortez has supported motions like; the proposal to have free public college, border, and immigration motions, issues touching on legalization of Abortion, and mandatory family leave. 

She has proposed the “Green New Deal” that aims reducing global warming and adaptation of renewable energy sources. She proposes that this should be achieved by 2030. She firmly roots for the empowerment of women and family and has publicly opposed the plan by the Republican government to build a wall on the border of America and Mexico.
