•    Alexander Bell is famously known for the invention of the telephone. He received patent rights to this invention despite the hundreds of lawsuits against his claim of being the original telephone inventor in 1876. He later went on to open the Bell Telephone Company in 1877.

•    He was among the first people to create education for the deaf, and he also had more than 18 patents to his name.

Early Life

Bell was born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland. His parents were Alexander Melville and Eliza Grace Symonds, who had difficulties with hearing. His mother’s condition motivated his delving into deaf education later in life. 

Education

Coming from a wealthy background, Bell was homeschooled for his primary education before joining Royal High School. He however dropped out of school citing that the curriculum was too mandatory.

Career

In 1870, Melville Bell moved his family to Ontario, Canada. In 1871 Alexander moved to the united states where he worked as a teacher for the deaf at the Boston school for the deaf. It is during his time as a teacher that he met the love of his life, Mabel Hubbard. 

It was also during his time as a teacher when he was asked to improve the harmonic telegraph. The device was used to transmit messages over wire simultaneously. However, Bell was more interested in developing a sound transmission device, and he convinced the investors to allow his work on both. 

The cellphone technology triumphed the advancements Bell had made on the harmonic telegraph. The first telephone call was made by Alexander bell to his assistant, Thomas Watson on March 10, 1876. 

In 1888, Bell helped to found the National Geographic Society. He served as the president of the society between 1898 to 1903. 

Death

Alexander Graham Bell died at his home in Baddeck, Canada. After his death, all telephones were shut off for one minute in honor for the man who invented the device. 

Graham Bell was 75 years of age when he breathed his last breath.
