Albert Camus won the Nobel Peace Prize for literature In 1957. 

Opposed French colonization and advocated for the empowerment of Algerians in labor and political fields.

He was an active member of the French Anarchist Movement and later on at the beginning of World War two, he became part of the French Resistance. The movement aimed at freeing up Paris from the Nazi rule. 

Camus was a prolific writer. His most significant and widely read books were; The myth of Sisyphus(1942), The Protagonist of the Stranger(1942) and The plague (1947).

Early Life

Albert Camus was born in Mondavi town, in Algeria. His father died in battle during World War One. Camus lived afterwards with his mother. He excelled well in school and got a place at the University of Algiers. Camus was active in football and took time to study philosophy.. In 1936 Camus graduated with a degree in Philosophy.

Personal Life

Albert Camus, at his young age, married twice and divorced twice. However, he dismissed the marriage institution.

Career

Albert Camus was a writer and a philosopher often associated with Existentialism. His books include The Myth of Sisyphus (1942), the Protagonist of the Stranger,(1942), and the Plague (1947). He read French literature classics and present writers of the day. His style of literature was fresh and revolved around the problems faced by Algerians during the colonial period. 

Camus was active in theatre in the 1940s and early 1950s where he acted for the Theatre du Travail which was a theatre mainly for the working class. Camus was engaged in an underground resistance movement that was against Germans. He was a journalist before going to Germany.

Death

Aged 46, Albert Camus died through a car accident on 4th January 1960.
