At age 16 in 1931, Alan Watts was made the Secretary of the Buddhist Lodge. He first published his first book ‘An Outline of Zen Buddhism’ in in 1932. Being a prolific writer having written more than 25 books in his lifetime, his most significant achievement was the book titled ‘way to Zen’ that got published in 1957. In 1936 Alan Watts published ‘The Spirit of Zen.’ Later, he released books consequently that talked about Zen Buddhism common in China and India, and Christianity.
Other books by Alan Watts are ‘The Spirit of Zen’ 1936, The Meaning of Happiness in 1940, and The Legacy of Asia and Western Man’ released in 1937. In 1958 Alan Watts returned to San Francisco and recorded two seasons for a TV show called ‘Eastern Wisdom and Modern Life.’
Early Life
Alan Watts was born on July 6th, 1915 in Chislehurst village, Kent in Britain. He was an only child to his parents; Wilson Watts and Emily Mary Watts and grew up alone.
Personal Life
Though out his life, He married three times. His first wife was Eleanor Everett who she met at the temple and got married in 1938. They had two children Joan born in 1938 and Anne in 1942.
Career
Alan Watts began his work at the age of 16, in 1932 by publishing his first book- An Outline of Zen Buddhism. He widely spread Zen Philosophy through his writings and public classes.
Since 1931 to the early 1950s, he has written more than 25 books. Alan Watts did a lot of research on the effects of psychedelic drugs such as LSD. He experimented with LSD and Marijuana and worked with a team of scientists.
Death
Aged 77, he died on 8th January 1642 after suffering a fever and heart condition,
